Photo terms

PortLocals exists thanks to photos from locals. To protect photographers and the site, these terms apply to every submitted photo.

1. Only your own photos

Only submit photos you took yourself and for which you hold the copyright. Not allowed: photos from the internet or social media, screenshots, and scans from books, magazines, newspapers or postcards.

2. Photos by someone else

You may only submit a photo by someone else, for example old slides or negatives from a family archive, with permission from the photographer or their heirs. State the photographer’s name and the permission in the note; the photo will then be credited to the photographer.

3. The photo remains yours

You keep the copyright. By submitting, you give PortLocals a free, non-exclusive permission to show the photo on portlocals.com and to link to it on our own social media, always credited with your name as photographer. We add a watermark with your name and PortLocals. We do not sell your photo or pass it on to others without your permission.

4. Withdrawal

You can withdraw your permission at any time. Email us and we will remove the photo from the site within 14 days.

5. People in the photo

It is about ships. Do not submit photos in which people are recognisably the main subject without their permission, and no photos from private premises where photography is not allowed.

6. Quality and watermark

A small watermark of your own is allowed, as long as it does not cover the ship. No borders, QR codes or advertising in the photo.

7. Complaints and abuse

Do you believe a photo on PortLocals infringes your copyright? Use the “Report a problem with this photo” link next to the photo or email us. We will take the photo offline immediately and review the report. Members who knowingly submit other people’s photos will be blocked. The submitter is responsible for the rights to the submitted photo.

All photos on PortLocals are protected by copyright. If you want to use a photo, first ask the photographer for permission through us. [email protected]
